my god, it's full of things...

My tongue is wondering what the heck just happened.

Lifeway makes "green kefir".  I've passed by it many times at the grocery store; this week, curiousity got the best of me.

Kefir is great stuff.  If you like plain tart yogurt, it's like that, except the consistency of a milkshake, and with fruit added.  Full of all sorts of live cultures that are supposed to be good for you.  Read the ingredients before buying:  some brands are overly sweetened - that's not the good stuff.

Anyway, Lifeway does an okay kefir, and many flavors.  Two different flavors of "green" kefir:  kiwi passionfruit and pomegranate acai blueberry.  I got the p-a-b.

The "green" comes from the other ingredients:  wheatgrass powder, barley grass powder, alfalfa grass powder, green tea extract, green cabbage powder, spinach powder, broccoli powder, kale powder, bell pepper powder, spirulina powder, and broken cell-wall chlorella.  Think Bolthouse Green Goodness - which is kinda good actually, if you can get past it's pond-scum looks.

The green kefir is not actually green.  It's about the color of malted milk powder, with a faint green cast.  And without the texture issues of Green Goodness, owing to everything being in powder form.

I think I kinda like it; I just can't figure out what it is.  But this is definitely a case of YMMV; you'll just have to try it for yourself - if you're up for that sort of thing.  Don't stop at the first sip; the second one tastes better.

And I'm wondering what I can do with it.  Would it actually be good with malted milk powder?  With vermouth?  Could I add it to green curry?

If you're just not ready for broken cell-wall chlorella, Lifeway also has a limited-edition pumpkin spice kefir.
Made with pumpkin juice, and not a cabbage in sight.
Friending welcome, but lurking is fine too.

Constructive criticism is also welcome - whatever it is, trust me, I've heard worse.
