saga of the fish

Phillipe:  I was told to bring you this bird.  It's been wounded.
Imperius:  Oh, good shot!  Bring it in, we'll dine together.
Phillipe:  We can't eat this bird.
Imperius:  What?  Oh God, is it Lent again already?

Whenever I see the fish sandwiches being pushed at the fast food restaurants, I think of that scene from Ladyhawke.

Having been a good kid most of the weekend and week -  home-cooking tasty&healthy meals, getting stuff done at work, dealing with doctors - I decided to just get drive-thru.  As with most things, we pay for our food with some combination of time and money...and you do generally get what you pay for, so I don't expect much from fast food except a break from making good decisions.  But...it isn't lent yet.  Neither Carl's (sorry - Hardee's - old habits die hard) nor Wendy's had a fish sandwich.

In a strange fit of sense, I walked out of both restaurants and instead stopped at the grocery store.

Two hours after leaving work, I sat down to a chickpea and "crab" taco, topped with ginger balsamic vinegar slaw (carrots, cucumber, and napa cabbage), mandarin slices, and honey-curry glazed pecans.  Far more satisfying than any fast food fish patty, and I have plenty of leftovers.  The downside is that it's 10pm and the list of things I was supposed to tackle this evening is stil untouched.  So it goes.

In other recent food news, now that Z is about to leave the Milwaukee area, we've discovered an excellent Vietnamese restaurant only a few minutes from her soon-to-be-ex house.  Yes, I do believe that restaurant name is pronounced the way you think.  First time in I got the tofu&vegetable pho, with meatballs added, and a honeydew and pineapple smoothie.  Z got a grilled pork banh mi.  We dragged Karen back there for dinner - I was still quite full from lunch, but managed to eat most of a shrimp mango salad.

Thank you for filling in the name -- I knew I recognized that quote, and was not going to sleep for wondering where it was from.

Friending welcome, but lurking is fine too.

Constructive criticism is also welcome - whatever it is, trust me, I've heard worse.
