...while simultaneously basking in a long weekend.

Friday night and Saturday I hung out at Z's place.  The aviary needs to be done and the birds settled before her classes start on Tuesday.  I helped a little - doesn't feel like much - but anyway she's finishing off the aviary today.  More importantly, I think, she got dinner and a good night's sleep.  The birds enjoyed having the run of the house for the weekend; the rock pebbler kept waking me with night flights up and down the hallway, until he finally roosted on top of the kitchen cabinets.

We attempted to nightswim Friday, but the lightning quickly became too close for comfort.  Saturday a bunch of us met at Swagat for dinner.  Good food, good company...then a rush home to catch Doctor Who.

Yesterday and today I've had the house to myself; so far I haven't done much with it except be happy about being alone.  I have made some inroads on the roofing considerations - the biggest thing that ought to be done before winter.  I've been toying with doing it myself, and calling in a few friend-chips for help.  Then I would "own" my roof, and would have some leftover cash for other house things.  I think more likely is that I'll do my own tear-off to save that little bit of cash, and I can replace the vent covers and any wood that needs replacing.  If I decide to go with a ridge vent then I'll remove the vent fans (which never worked anyway).  Then I'll let pros do the work of roofing - it's a low slope and nothing too fancy.

So, I need to make a list of roofer questions for when I get estimates.  I have a pretty good idea of what I want and what extras I'm considering.

No matter who does the work, step 1 is to clear around the house.  Which I should have done yesterday, but...well, some days, things just don't happen.  Today, my mind is in a better place; the weather is not, but I might be able to fit in a short yardwork session.
Friending welcome, but lurking is fine too.

Constructive criticism is also welcome - whatever it is, trust me, I've heard worse.
