The flash drive that holds all of my writing was lost for 11 months, and I allowed it.  That's a pretty good summary of what the last year has been like.

Last night I made a small effort and found it.  It was pretty much where I thought it was:  hanging from the handle of one of the many, many reusable grocery bags that I have filled and abandoned over the last couple of years.

It also holds the vegetable garden crop rotation spreadsheet, which is what finally made me search for it.  I have garden records - of varying levels of detail - for every year since 2002 (the first year I had a garden).

I was pleased to find that my critical eye for my own writing seems to have improved.  In other words, I'm finding more things to fix in my writing.  This happened the last two times I had a long break from writing.  I'm not arguing that long breaks from writing make one a better writer:  that just sounds silly.  But something was still churning in the brain during that downtime.  Plus, I was reading more.

So I find myself eager to see what writing will be like now.  Hopeful.

Speaking of reading, I finished ex-coworker's book, Half.  As a reader, I was amused and entertained.  As a writer, it was educational and I think it's worth reading again.

Friending welcome, but lurking is fine too.

Constructive criticism is also welcome - whatever it is, trust me, I've heard worse.
