birthday festivities

Birthday yesterday.  Had a very nice weekend full of friends and activities.  Which is wonderful, even if I will start the week tired.

I baked the hubbard-esque squash that's been patiently waiting for me to be inspired.  Got at least 6 cups of squash for it.  Let it cool, added salt and at least 13 cups of flour, to make a massive batch of squash gnocchi.  My first time making gnocchi - they're definitely a comfort food:  a pasta/dumpling sort of thing.  I also made lentil balls (primarily lentils, ground walnuts, and crushed crouton), which turned out as intended.  Alfredo sauce, baconated kale, and a carrot, tomato, and yellow pepper pasta sauce.  I like to play with food, and a crowd of agreeable people is a good time to do it.

Friday night was low-key socializing and gaming.  Saturday, more gaming, until we were all ready to fall over.  Mostly Dominion, but also a couple games of FITS, which is pretty good.  A friend brought bacon brownies.

Today I had a lof of trouble getting up, but finally I did and went to Boerner Botanical Gardens for another Happy Seed Catalog Day.  Plenty of good chatting, and I visited my favorite book there:  Andy Goldsworthy's Wood.  If I could spend my time in the yard, crafting structures like that out of sticks and rocks and whatever else I find, I'd be very happy.  Actually, a fair bit of childhood was that sort of activity.

The day's socializing ended with gifts from Z.:  a nice crocheted sweater/shrug, and a copy of Amy Goldman's The Compleat Squash.
Friending welcome, but lurking is fine too.

Constructive criticism is also welcome - whatever it is, trust me, I've heard worse.
