Stand back! I'm going to eat science!

Last week I accidentally made green cake.  Actually, it was the basic spiced yogurt pound cake, with the yogurt replaced by pureed cantaloupe (left over from the CSA box), plus coconut, pecans, and sunflower seeds (cleaning out the freezer), and with the spices adjusted accordingly.

It was pretty good.  Better with vanilla ice cream.

I left it on the countertop to cool overnight, and the next morning when I sliced it, there were brilliantly emerald green spots in it.  But not obviously fuzzy or moldy.  And they seemed to always surround a sunflower seed.  I inspected it for a while, then shrugged and ate a slice, and it went down fine.

Then I decided to Google the phenomenon.  Apparently it's a chemical reaction between the sesame seeds and the baking soda (and I'd added extra baking soda and salt in the hope of lightening the cake a little).  Cool.

Friending welcome, but lurking is fine too.

Constructive criticism is also welcome - whatever it is, trust me, I've heard worse.
